Mackenzie Lewis Bursary

Mackenzie Lewis was a student of Alberta Ballet School since the age of 3. Her first performance was Peter Pan, she was a seahorse.

Mackenzie had one passion, dancing, at times it was even a distraction from her life. She was diagnosed with AML Leukemia in Sept 2010. In a blink of an eye her family's world was transformed from getting Mackenzie to dance practices, to a permanent stay at the Stollery Children’s Hospital for 8 months. 5 years later she was re-diagnosed in Sept 2016. She had a bone morrow transplant and it was another 4 ½ months at the Calgary Children’s Hospital. The bone marrow transplant gave the family another 2 precious years with her.

Sadly Mackenzie passed away in 2018. When Mackenzie grew up her goal in life was to help other children around the world. So when it came time to figure out what to do with the money she saved, the natural thing for her parents to do was to start a bursary in her name. $1,000.00 was donated to Alberta Ballet School in her honour.

Additionally Jake and Jennifer Lewis, Mackenzie's parents, are donating $1,000.00 per year for the next 5 years. They feel dancing for some is not only an activity or a career but a gift of pure joy and every child should be able to have access to this.

The Mackenzie Lewis Bursary will provide tuition to dancers in the Edmonton area who wish to participate in dance classes at Alberta Ballet School. To contribute please email: and let us know that you wish to donate in Mackenzie's honour.

To be considered for the bursary, please send your request and why you want to dance at Alberta Ballet School to Recipients will be notified in August.

In loving memory - Mackenzie Lewis April 2003 – Nov 2018.
