March 15, 2020 - 5:00 pm

This afternoon, the Province of Alberta, in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer and with Alberta Education, announced that effective immediately, student attendance at schools is prohibited.

For Alberta Ballet School students, there will be no classes – academic or artistic – on Monday March 15.

Cecchetti exams taking place this week for our Open Division students are now officially canceled.

We will be fully reviewing the new guidelines from the Province and will have further updates tomorrow.

We appreciate your patience during this time. As always, your children’s health and safety are our top priority, and we are consulting with authorities to ensure our next steps are aligned with their recommendations.

March 15, 2020

Alberta Ballet School has chosen to suspend Open Division classes, beginning March 16. The Open Division will stay closed over spring break as scheduled.

These precautionary measures are in response to the rapidly evolving circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

We will update you in the coming week on how we will schedule make-up classes.

If your child is scheduled for Cecchetti exams this week, the exams will go ahead as planned, based on your comfort with the situation. If you have any questions about the exam, please feel free to connect with Julie Coleman (Calgary) or Margaret Dalwood (Edmonton)

In two weeks, we will re-evaluate this decision using the most current information available.

March 13, 2020

Steps we have taken to increase our responsiveness include:

• Increased cleaning of the schools, including hourly disinfecting of high traffic and shared spaces such as doors, washrooms, water fountains, etc.

• Students who have already departed for international locations will be required to self-isolate for a minimum of 14 days upon return. This isolation will not take place at Alberta Ballet School’s Residence.

• Instructors, guest faculty and examiners will follow the same guidelines.

• We strongly encourage students not to attend class when they feel unwell. We also encourage our local families to consult Health Link 811 for additional information.

Professional Division Students

Alberta Ballet School asks that all Professional Division students not travel outside of Canada, and that family members outside of Canada not travel here to visit. Families who do not follow this recommendation need to be aware that upon returning, they will be required to refrain from attending any classes at Alberta Ballet School for a 14-day period. Alberta Ballet School’s Residence will not facilitate self-isolation of any student returning from international locations. These students will need to abide by the following:

• to have a parent or guardian with them in Canada, if they are under the age of 18
• to stay at a location outside of Alberta Ballet School’s Residence during the self-isolation period
• to cover any expenses incurred during the self-isolation period

Open Division Students

Families who are returning from travel outside of Canada are required to refrain from attending Alberta Ballet School classes for a minimum of 14 days.
